Prostatitis

Swelling of the small walnut-sized gland (prostate) that produces seminal fluid.
  • Treatable by a medical professional
  • Requires a medical diagnosis
  • Lab tests or imaging often required
  • Short-term: resolves within days to weeks
Causes of prostatitis may include infection, injury or an immune system disorder.
Symptoms include difficulty urinating, pain in the groin, pelvic area or genitals and, sometimes, flu-like symptoms.
Prostatitis may get better on its own. If it's caused by a bacterial infection, antibiotics may be prescribed.
