Colourful parades and celebrations for Diwali and Vaisakhi draw crowds to Punjabi Market, a five-block district along Main Street. Home to a large South Asian community, the area is known for its Indian restaurants, serving everything from curries to traditional sweets, and specialty stores, selling bright saris and gold jewelry. The nearby Ross Street Gurdwara was designed by Canadian architect Arthur Erickson.
