The small town of Mae Hong Son is a jumping off point for hiking in the surrounding mountains and reaching hilltribe villages. A serene pond lies at the center of Nong Chong Kham Public Park, overlooked by Burmese-style temples such as the ornate 1800s Wat Chong Kham and several rustic cafes and restaurants. Each April, the 3-day Buat Luk Khaeo Festival celebrates the ordination of young boys as novice monks.
