Venini Fungo lamp

Lamp named "Fungo" for its mushroom shape designed by Massimo Vignelli for Italian glass maker Venini in 1955. Massimo Vignelli received an honorable mention at the Compasso D'Oro in 1956 for this lamp.

In the early 1950s, Paulo Venini asked Massimo Vignelli to design a series of lighting fixtures in glass. It was a very challenging proposition to bring colorful Murano glass into play with light. This lamp was the result of an attempt to eliminate the lampshade by merging base and top, using typical Murano glass. This first successful model, widely imitated around the world, has become part of the language of design. Collections: Cooper-Hewitt Museum, New York; Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Montreal.
