Charlemagne confesses to Saint Giles

The hermit Giles lived together with a doe in southern France until the king’s hunters accidentally shot him with an arrow, thus discovering him. In compensation the king had a monastery built for Giles in St. Gilles in France. In the Middle Ages he was one of the most revered saints and legend has it that even Charlemagne, who lived 100 years later, asked for his intercession.
