14th Century

Saint George from Lydda on horse, hits witht his spear the dragon and releases the captured damsel. The legendary scene is validated by Giacomo da Varazze in "The legenda Aurea" (1385); up on the left, upon the walls of the city, a woman watches the scene. Some author says that the painting is due to Barnabò Visconti, duke of Milan, who, during one of his sojourn in Borgo San Donnino with a company of Saint George's knights, had it painted in the presbytery of the oratory of Saint George erected after 1317 after the will of one of the Pallavicino marquis.
