Nest Renew availability

As of December 14, 2023, you can no longer sign up for Nest Renew Premium and we will only offer the free Nest Renew service. Existing Nest Renew Premium customers will be automatically transferred to the free Nest Renew service and no longer be charged for Nest Renew Premium starting with their next billing cycle. Current Premium subscribers will get an additional year's worth of renewable energy credits (RECs) for their home at no cost. Starting in 2024, existing Nest Renew Premium customers will no longer see Clean Energy Match content in the Nest Renew Web Portal.

Nest Renew is a free service for compatible Nest thermostats only available in the continental United States and not available in the following US locations1:

  • Alaska
  • Hawaii

Nest Renew is available to anyone who lives in an eligible zip code in the continental US, has a compatible Nest thermostat, and a migrated Google Account.

Prioritize cleaner energy

Energy Shift can work with your compatible Nest thermostat to help automatically prioritize usage of cleaner energy by adjusting your heating and cooling.

With the See Your Power feature, Nest Renew also helps you know when the electricity coming into your home is cleaner, and when it’s not so clean, so you can make more informed choices about how you use energy.

The prioritize clean energy and See Your Power features don’t work in the following US locations:

  • Alaska
  • Hawaii
  • The following California zip code: 90704
  • The following Maine zip codes: 04730, 04732, 04734, 04735, 04736, 04738,04740, 04742, 04745, 04746, 04750, 04751, 04756, 04757, 04758, 04760, 04761, 04762, 04763, 04766, 04769, 04772, 04773, 04775, 04779, 04780, 04783, 04785, 04786, 04787, 04851, and 04852.
Prioritize cheaper energy

To prioritize cheaper energy, Energy Shift can work with your compatible Nest thermostat to help automatically prioritize usage of less expensive electricity by adjusting your heating and cooling. Prioritizing usage of less expensive energy is only available for customers on certain electric utility time-of-use rates.

To take advantage of this feature, you’ll need to provide your time-of-use rate code in the Nest Renew portal, and it must be a time-of-use rate that’s supported by Nest Renew.

Customers of the energy companies listed below can prioritize cheaper energy with Energy Shift, if enrolled in the company’s applicable time-of-use rate:
