A rural area flanked by the Andes Mountains, the Vilcabamba District is known as the Lost City of the Incas. It has appeared, at least in name, in pop culture works, though archaeological studies of the area are unfinished and the Incan ruins, which include stone walls and foundations, are inaccessible. The tranquil landscape features ponds and rugged hills, plus views of the adjacent, more urbanized Tapuc District.
