This sculptural ceramic bottle represents the transport of prisoners to the islands by a mythological being, the marine twin of Ai Apaec, the civilizing hero of the Moche. Offerings and sacrifices took place on the islands off the coast of northern Peru. Moche art also represents the altars built there and other ceremonies performed in the islands. (UH)
En esta botella escultórica de cerámica se representa el transporte de cautivos a las islas por un personaje mitológico, el mellizo marino de Ai Apaec, el héroe civilizador Mochica. En las islas cercanas a las costas del norte del Perú se llevaron a cabo ofrendas y sacrificios, y el arte Mochica también representa los altares allí construidos, así como otros eventos rituales en las islas.
